4 Simple tips to help you get the most out of your physiotherapy or myotherapy session

 

Making the most from your appointment

 

In order for you to get the most out of your physiotherapy or myotherapy sessions, here are 4 things you can do:

1. Ask your therapist questions about your injury.

Understanding your condition and how to best manage it is one of the most important factors for a successful recovery. There is no such thing as a stupid question. So ask away. The more you understand and know what’s happening the more likely you are to have a good recovery.

2. Follow your therapists advice and do your exercises

Exercises are a key part of your recovery. Like you might stick to taking your routine medicines try to make exercises part of your routine too. It is important they are done correctly so make sure your therapist check that you are doing them correctly.


3. Notice your improvements


As your therapists we want to see you improving within normal time frames for particular injuries and nothing can be more disheartening for you if you are diligently attending your appointments and performing your exercises yet not seeing improvements. This may mean there may be the need to adjust your exercise or re-assess your injury and treatment plan. Noticing your own improvements can be motivating to continue with your rehabilitation and recovery. Get your therapist to point out what improvements they can see and what you can look out for.

4. Set goals and work with your therapist to achieve these

Everyone has different goals. Some might want to get back to playing sports others might want to be able get on the floor to play with their grandchildren. Discuss these goals with your therapist. Let them know what you are having trouble doing and what you would like to be able to do. Your therapist can then guide your treatments and exercises to assist you meet these goals.
